The Department of East Asian Studies’ Wilayah: The International Journal of East Asian Studies is a high-quality, open-access, peer-reviewed journal published by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Universiti Malaya. Wilayah provides a platform for the dissemination and exchange of knowledge through high-quality multidisciplinary research articles focusing on East Asian  issues. This Special Issue of the WILAYAH: International Journal of East Asian Studies contains nine articles on the theme of the Covid-19 Pandemic and Japan. The goal of the Special Issue is to create awareness of research studies in the area of pandemic outbreaks in Japan and other East Asian countries. The production of this Special Issue is proudly sponsored by Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur (JFKL), Malaysia.

Volume 10 (1) was published online in March 2021 and features nine accepted papers authored by fourteen researchers.
