LOTERI UMNO MALAYA 1946 – 1969

Abstract

This article is an early research about UMNO Malaya Lottery who has been establishing before independence. It’s elaborate the purpose of the UMNO Malaya Lottery and the importance for the sake of UMNO struggling due to financial problems among the Malay’s community around 1940s to 1960s. UMNO Malaya Lottery was a massive launching for the first time on 19 June 1953 at Sultan Sulaiman Club, Kuala Lumpur. The implementation of the UMNO Malaya Lottery was purposely to protect Malay’s community welfare in the middle 20th century. Lottery was common among the community in Tanah Melayu especially when severel gambling act and ordinance like Social and Welfare Services Lotteries Board Act 1950 – 1962, Social and Welfare Services Lottery Board Ordinance 1950, Lottery Act 1952 and the Gaming House Act 1953 were introduced from the British to control any activities about gambling in Tanah Melayu. The study is using qualitative methods.  Information in this article is referring to historical sources like files, correspondents and newspapers. In conclusion, all discussion about UMNO Malaya The findings show that the lottery indicate that new social development among Malay’s community had happened in the middle 20th century. Besides that, this situation can show us about Islamic religion stand related to the Muslim community in Malaysia.
