PERCEPTIONS OF PROGRESS AND DEVELOPMENT AMONG ENGLISH-EDUCATED MUSLIMS IN WORLD WAR II MALAYA

Abstract

This article analyzes the conception of progress among the English-educated Muslims. Among others, the author has touched on how the Kaum Muda urged the Malays to participate in all forms of economic activities, the conflict of Islam and Western economic principles, the role of Zainal Abidin Ahmad (Za'ba), and the growing desire that Muslim children should be given opportunities to learn English.
