Abstract

Culture includes the lifestyles, traditions, beliefs, arts, religion, language, food habits, clothes, behaviors, festivals, scientific knowledge, morals, and social relations of a society. The food habits of the Sangam people are important among the lifestyles of the people of the Sangam period. This research article is designed to reveal how the people of the Sangam period obtained food, the foods they ate, the information about the stoves and kitchens they used, the respect they gave to food, the ways in which they served food, i.e. the characteristics of hospitality. In this study, the literatures of the Sangam period such as Thirukkural, Silappadhikaram, Purananuru, Akananuru, Kurunthokai, Pathitruppattu, Maduraraikanchi, Perumpanathruppadai, Sirupanathruppadai, Pattinapalai are taken as research sources.
