This study employed a cross-sectional quantitative survey design. Data were collected from 728 primary school teachers in Malaysia, which were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Findings revealed that principal instructional leadership had a significant direct effect on teachers’ affective commitment, and a significant but indirect effect through collective teacher efficacy. However, there was no moderating effect of school location on the relationship between principal instructional leadership and teachers’ affective commitment. The findings imply a need to develop professional dialogue and collegiality among teachers.
Lei Mee Thien Donnie Adams Copyright (c) 2024 2024-04-19 2024-04-19 12 2 1 15 SCHOOL LEADERSHIP IN ADDRESSING THE INFLUENCE OF PARENTAL INCOME ON PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE AMONG JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS https://mojem.um.edu.my/index.php/MOJEM/article/view/51255
The global prevalence of obesity among students is on the rise, primarily associated with sedentary activities and insufficient physical exercise. This study investigated the difference in the level of physical activity and sedentary lifestyle of students across different income levels of parents as well as active lifestyles strategies promoted by school leadership. A total of 900 students from 10 schools and 10 cities in East Java Indonesia participated in the study. The income data of students’ parents was divided into 5 categories based on their income level (very low: n = 360; low: n = 231; medium: n = 123; high: n = 79; very high: n = 107). The research instrument used were Children Physical Activity Questionnaire (CPAQ) and Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ) to determine level of physical activity (PA) and sedentary lifestyle (SL) respectively. Mann Whitney test indicated that there was a significant difference between the PA and SL level between parents' income in the very low category and the low, medium, high, and very high categories (p<0.05). It appears to be a significant difference in students' physical activity levels across parental income levels, with higher-income parents being able to provide more opportunities for physical activity. However, this relationship is reversed for sedentary behavior with higher-income parents having children engaging in more sedentary activities. Therefore, school leadership is instrumental in both promoting strategies to parents and students for fostering healthy and active lifestyles and ensuring equitable access to physical activities, especially for students from low-income backgrounds.
Oce Wiriawan Siswantoyo Donny Ardy Kusuma Awang Firmansyah Azmawaty Mohamad Nor Afif Rusdiawan Nursyuhaidah Mohd Kadri Copyright (c) 2024 2024-04-01 2024-04-01 12 2 16 27 MEDIATING EFFECT OF FINANCIAL LITERACY ON THE INFLUENCE OF PARENTAL FINANCIAL SOCIALISATION ON SUBJECTIVE FINANCIAL WELLBEING OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS https://mojem.um.edu.my/index.php/MOJEM/article/view/51256
The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of parental financial socialisation and financial literacy on subjective financial well-being of community college students in Johor. Correlational study was employed to investigate and measure the level of relationship between parental financial socialisation, financial literacy, and subjective financial well-being. The total number of respondents involved in this study is 432 community college students from Johor. In analysing the obtained data, Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) Version 23 has been utilised to analyse descriptive statistics for parental financial socialisation and subjective financial well-being, while Rasch Measurement Modeling was employed to measure descriptive statistics for financial literacy and its dimensions. In analysing Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), Smart Partial Least Square Version 3.3.2 was used to evaluate the correlation measures of all the variables involved in this study. Based on correlational study, the result showed that parental financial socialisation has a direct and significant influence on financial literacy and subjective financial well-being respectively. However, the findings of this study found that financial literacy did not mediate the influence of parental financial socialisation on subjective financial well-being. As a conclusion, parental financial
socialisation is a critical factor which highly need to be considered in enhancing financial literacy and elevating subjective financial well-being level among community college students in Johor. The findings of the current study implied that parents and financial institution should always encourage and support community college students in acquiring adequate financial information to enhance their financial literacy acquisition and to improve good subjective financial well-being.
Ahmad Muhaimin Mat Jusoh Copyright (c) 2024 2024-04-01 2024-04-01 12 2 28 49 ENHANCING UNIVERSITY PERFORMANCE THROUGH THE LENS OF POTENTIAL FACTORS FOR INNOVATION CAPABILITY AMONG ACADEMIC STAFF IN MALAYSIAN UNIVERSITIES: A TOTAL QUALITY MANAGEMENT - BASED INVESTIGATION https://mojem.um.edu.my/index.php/MOJEM/article/view/51257
This study aims to investigate the potential factors within Total Quality Management (TQM) that can enhance innovation capabilities among academicians in Malaysian universities. The adoption of TQM principles is pivotal for the development of university performance. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was employed to analyse the underlying relationships among latent constructs, comprising of leadership management commitment, people management, stakeholder focus, student focus, recognition and rewards, vision, innovation capabilities, and university performance, as proposed in the model. A total of eight hypotheses were formulated to examine these latent relationships. The Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique was utilized to empirically assess the model. Data was gathered through a survey conducted via convenience sampling in both private and public universities in Malaysia, resulting in 123 usable questionnaires. The findings indicate that three out of the seven hypothesized relationships between TQM enablers and innovation capabilities are statistically significant, as evidenced by t-values exceeding 1.96 with two-tailed test using 10,000 bootstrapped samples. These significant relationships influence innovation capabilities and subsequently impact university performance. In contrast, insignificant findings suggest that academic staff working independently minimizes the influence of people management, with limited impact from quality improvement, student focus, and vision dimensions.
Nur Balqishanis Zainal Abidin Ainin Zakiah Othman Loshini Thiruchelvam Nur Intan Liyana Mohd Azmi Mohd Rashid Ab Hamid Nur Amalina Mat Jan Copyright (c) 2024 2024-04-01 2024-04-01 12 2 50 73 DEALING WITH CYBERBULLYING IN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS IN MALAYSIA: THE ROLE OF SCHOOL LEADERS https://mojem.um.edu.my/index.php/MOJEM/article/view/51258
With the growing prevalence of cyberbullying in schools, school leaders have a crucial role to play in addressing this issue. This case study explores the practices of school leaders in detecting, intervening, and preventing cases of cyberbullying in international schools. Eight school leaders and 12 teachers participated in semistructured interviews and focus group discussions, respectively. Thematic analysis using ATLAS.ti was employed to analyze the data, which revealed the importance of school leaders in fostering a positive learning environment and involving the school community in addressing cyberbullying. Detection, intervention, and prevention strategies were employed by the schools, as well as policies and programs that promote digital citizenship. The article concludes with implications for school leaders and schools, including the need to acknowledge and prioritize the issue of cyberbullying, and to develop and implement relevant strategies, policies, and programs not only in international schools but in other academic institutions dealing with cyberbullying.
Joseph M.
